A Heavenly Sunday Roast at the Constant Service Pub in Hanover

A Heavenly Sunday Roast at the Constant Service Pub in Hanover

Located near the top of the Islingword Road in Hanover, the Constant Service pub may require a bit of a climb, but let me assure you, it is totally worth it. This lovely, small, and cosy pub is a hidden gem that has captured the hearts of locals and visitors alike. Under new management, the pub has recently appointed a new chef for the kitchen, piquing my curiosity and prompting me to pay a visit.
The Constant Service pub embodies everything you would expect from a proper down-to-earth pub. It’s a traditional local boozer, complete with quirky regulars and an atmosphere that exudes relaxation and laid-back vibes. Sparsely decorated, with bare walls adorned with the odd random picture, and a few interesting nick-nacks dotted about the place. In a world where modern plastic gastro pubs seem to be popping up everywhere, it’s refreshing to step into a place that stays true to its roots. No pretentiousness here, just good times and genuine hospitality. I immediately felt at home in an environment that set the stage for a delightful dining experience.
Every Sunday, the Constant Service pub delights its patrons by serving traditional Sunday Roast Dinners, with a choice of roast Gammon, Chicken, or Nutloaf. On the day of my visit, they had a special offering of Ribeye beef, which I could not resist. My partner opted for the Gammon. We grabbed our drinks and chatted to a couple of the friendly regulars while we eagerly anticipated the arrival of our Sunday roast feast.
When the plates arrived, we were greeted with a sight that made our mouths water. The traditional home-cooked Sunday roast was served with homemade Yorkshire puddings, perfectly cooked light and fluffy potatoes with a beautiful golden carapace of crunch, and a medley of simple, fresh seasonal vegetables. Each component was meticulously prepared and cooked to perfection.
The star of the show was undoubtedly the meat. My Ribeye, cooked to medium rare as I had requested, was an absolute work of art. Tender, juicy, and bursting with flavour, it was a carnivore’s dream come true. The thick slices of Gammon that adorned my partner’s plate were equally impressive, showcasing the best that the noble pig has to offer. We savoured each bite, relishing in the delightful combination of flavours and textures.
To complete the experience, the Constant Service pub delivered on the gravy front as well. The meaty gravy was rich, full-bodied, and added an extra layer of depth to the already tantalizing flavours of the roast. It was evident that the chef’s dedication and skill had gone into every aspect of the meal.
What truly amazed us was the price. At just £12.95 per plate, the Sunday roast at the Constant Service pub offers unbeatable value for money. Considering that food is not the main focus of the pub and that it lacks a dedicated dining area due to its size, the fact that they can deliver such a fantastic roast dinner is a testament to their commitment to quality.
Delicious and affordable, the Sunday roast at the Constant Service pub exceeded our expectations. It’s clear that the new management and chef have brought a fresh wave of culinary prowess to this traditional pub. Despite the pub’s limitations when it comes to space, the roast dinner experience was nothing short of exceptional, and we are already planning our return visit.

Do not miss the opportunity to indulge in the Sunday roast at the Constant Service pub. This pub delivers the best value delicious Sunday Roast in Brighton. From the warm and welcoming ambiance to the mouth-watering flavours that will leave you craving more, this hidden gem is a true delight for the senses.
