Experience a tented camping experience like never before, in a new modern interpretation of the tented safari camp, pushing the boundaries of safari style to the next level, in the heart of the private 350,000-acre Singita Grumeti Reserve, Tanzania

The camp reopens this winter and has been transformed to appeal to a new generation of safari-goers wanting the ultimate camping experience. With a history of pioneering safari style, Singita is set to unveil its latest innovation – a next-generation tented safari experience – with the transformation of Singita Sabora Tented Camp, set in a 350,000-acre concession in the Serengeti. The stripped back, game-changing new-look offers a modern interpretation of tented safari experience, attracting constantly on-call travellers who are seeking a return to the authentic, raw and immersive, without forfeiting creative comforts. Singita Sabora is set to embody the essence of simplicity – a restorative sanctuary under canvas where connecting with nature comes naturally.

Singita’s design partners, Cécile & Boyd and GAPP Architects, collaborated to bring the architecture and décor of Singita Sabora Tented Camp to life, echoing the earthy colour palette of the bush and balancing this with modern interpretations of furniture which evoke the spirit of East African adventures. Leading the charge for a bold new breed of tented safari design, Sabora will feature an elegant aesthetic of muted taupe, tan and beige, with touches of brown leather and thick beige stitching. Mesh, canvas and weave finishes throughout the nine tented suites will provide a rich combination of textures and layers of sophisticated comfort, while the exquisite craftsmanship of the custom-designed tents is extended to every chosen piece. Subtle but deliberate architectural details and décor elements welcome the breathtaking surroundings inside, offering seamless combinations of indoor and outdoor experiences.

Offering Africa’s most restorative safari experience under canvas, Singita Sabora Tented Camp awakens the senses and its seamless combination of private indoor and outdoor spaces allows for continuous game-viewing, reconnecting with nature and oneself, and finding much-needed stillness. The new camp has been skillfully repositioned to capture the best views over the plains, as well as two nearby waterholes, where game regularly gather to drink. This location at eye level with wildlife rewrites the script on sustainable experiences in the wilderness. Offering superb game-viewing opportunities all year round, the camp is also set on the Great Wildebeest Migration route; and guided game walks on foot enhance experiencing the Serengeti up close.

Being even closer to the ground means every sight, sound and smell of the bush is amplified, while bespoke glass panelling welcomes the Serengeti plains inside. Added comforts include private meditation decks and secluded outdoor salas with shaded daybeds, offering a reimagined guest experience which places the emphasis on stillness and serenity. This will allow guests to spend languid afternoons reading on their decks, idly watch game passing by, and immerse themselves in Sabora’s unrivalled setting. Meanwhile, the main lodge area offers a unique “Guest Deli” with wicker baskets and fridges filled with gourmet bites, where guests can select treats to enjoy in their suites. This is in addition to a separate pool area, two dining spaces and an open-plan bar and lounge – all adding to Sabora’s understated look.

Singita Sabora Tented Camp’s dining experience is one of the most innovative elements of its reinvention. Building on the farm-to-table philosophy that underpins menu development at all of the Singita lodges, sustainable sourcing and ethical provenance are complemented by a number of forward-thinking dining concepts that exceed all expectations of safari food. Total flexibility around menus and meal times, as well as additional layers of privacy and space, are part of the intuitive offering at the new Singita Sabora, which is designed to celebrate the value of togetherness. Seasonal, locally-sourced ingredients are only the beginning with a focus on healthy fruit and vegetables; guests can also fill wicker picnic baskets with wholesome treats from the lodge’s all-day, self-service ‘Guest Deli’ – a signature feature of this new camp – to be enjoyed on their suite’s private deck, or at any number of secluded dining locations scattered throughout the property. Each tented suite even features an in-room pantry for effortless snacking; with mouthwatering bites best enjoyed on their secluded shaded daybeds.

Set in the western corridor of the Serengeti, Singita Grumeti gives guests exclusive access to the Serengeti Mara ecosystem – the renowned migratory route of the Great Migration. It’s protected by the dedicated conservation team at the Grumeti Fund, Singita’s conservation partner in the region, who spearheads projects like the Anti-Poaching Canine Unit, black rhino relocations and the Serengeti Girls Run for the empowerment of girls in rural communities. Each of Sabora’s tents rest lightly above the ground, with minimal impact on the landscape and with the use of sustainable materials, natural light, cross ventilation, energy-efficient lighting and solar power, the off-grid design wholly embraces the One Planet Living sustainability framework.
