Affordable Destinations 2016
Often one of the trickiest parts of going on holiday is trying to figure out how much spending money to bring with you. You’ll probably have a rough idea as to whether a city is renowned for being ridiculously expensive or insanely cheap but until you get there, it’s difficult to get a sense of how much things really cost.
So, to help you out, we’ve taken a closer look at the price of items across some top holiday destinations of 2016, to determine which cities you can get the most for your money whilst you’re away.
Marrakech – Morocco
With a flight time of less than four hours, you could be basking in the sun and enjoying the bustling souks and markets of Marrakech. How far your holiday budget goes may rely on your ability to barter, though rest assured that the fixed cost items will be cheap. A domestic beer will cost you just £1.36, where a bottle of wine will set you back just £6.00. Take a trip around to see the sights and a single bus ticket will cost just £0.27, whilst a 5 mile taxi fare will cost just £2.48.
But be careful when it comes to shopping. Where you might be able to pick up a bargain in the souks, take a trip to the shopping mall and things aren’t quite as cheap. A pair of Adidas trainers will cost £52, whilst a pair of Levi 501 jeans comes in at £31.
Cape Town – South Africa
Sit back and enjoy the stunning mountainous scenery of Cape Town, South Africa with a meal for two and a drink in hand. A meal will cost around £22, a bottle of wine £3.72 and a bottle of beer just £0.61.
If you’re someone who enjoys the familiarity of the brands you know and love whilst you’re away, a McDonalds Big Mac meal will cost you just £2.13, whilst a large 2-litre bottle of Coca-Cola comes in at just £0.67.
Entertainment costs are reasonable, with two theatre tickets coming in at £27.00, whilst a cinema trip for two costs just £5.43.
Siem Reap – Cambodia
After a long day of temple trekking around Siem Reap’s beautiful ancient architecture, take a taxi ride for just £1.44 back to your 3* hotel, which will cost an average of just £28.17 a night.
If you’re looking to do a bit of shopping, a pair of Adidas trainers will cost an extremely well-priced £17, or if you just want to sit back and relax, enjoy a beer for just £0.36 or a bottle of wine for £5.70. Decide to take in a film and you’ll spend just £2.66 on two cinema tickets.
Chiang Mai – Thailand
Perhaps unsurprisingly, the Thai city of Chiang Mai is amongst one of the cheapest destinations when it comes to splashing the cash whilst on holiday. A stay in a 3* hotel will set you back just £19.66 a night, whilst a shopping trip to pick up a pair of Levi 501 Jeans will cost you just £22.
Enjoy some Thai cuisine at just £20 for two, before heading to the theatre to sit in the best seats available for just £13.00 for two. Compare that to London’s West end at £155.00 or New York’s Broadway at £203.00 and you realise just how much of a bargain you’re getting.
Prague, Czech Republic
Looking closer to home, within Europe, you can visit the intriguing ruin bars of Prague and enjoy a domestic beer for just £0.43 or a bottle of wine for £3.87. Food won’t cost you much either, with a meal for two costing just £22.
