Artisan Cider Maker From east Sussex Wins Prestigous Awards
East Sussex based Hurstwood Cider has recently won several top awards including ‘Country Homes and Interiors Magazine’s – My Country Business Awards 2017’, a Bronze Medal for their Medium Cider in the British Cider Championships at ‘The Royal Bath and West Show’ and they have also been awarded 1 star for their Medium Dry Cider in the Great Taste Awards. Great Taste is widely acknowledged as the most respected food accreditation scheme for artisan and speciality food producers. As well as a badge of honour, the unmistakable black and gold label is a signpost for consumers to a wonderful tasting product.
Hurstwood Cider has shown that their blend of Kent and Sussex grown dessert apples blended with bittersweet varieties has the perfect natural sweetness and sparkling refreshing taste. Alex and Mat Gibbins run their small family cider making business using traditional methods. The apples are pressed and fermented, after blending freshly pressed apple juice is added prior to bottling to add a natural sweetness.
The cider pairs beautifully with salty snacks, seafood, especially shellfish and of course the traditional pork combination! With a growing loyal following their reputation is spreading throughout the country. Look out for Hurstwood Cider at events in East Sussex throughout the year.
