Baros Maldives Hosts Guinness World Record Free Dive Event
Baros Maldives collaborated with the Maldivian Ministry of Tourism to host Neyvaa: A Guinness World Record attempt for the largest number of free divers to simultaneously free dive underwater. A total of 523 divers successfully exceeded by almost double the previous record of 280 divers held at Torri del Benaco, Verona in 2009.
Chosen as the site for the attempt due to its outstanding house reef and sparkling turquoise lagoon, Baros Maldives welcomed the attempt to break the record in celebration of World Tourism Day 2019. The attendees included the President of the Maldives Mr Ibrahim Solih as well as New Zealand’s free-dive champion William Trubridge.
Recognised as one of the most reputable Maldivian resorts, Baros’ abundance of lush vegetation and strikingly rich marine life is indicative of its legendary longevity. Baros was also one of the very first resorts to establish a ‘Diving by Design’ experience for guests. This enables divers to select where they want to dive and what they wish to see in consultation with their very own professional diving instructor.
In light of maintaining the beauty of Baros’ reef, coral sponsorship initiatives are in place, whereby guests can sponsor a fragment of coral. These fragments are transplanted onto a personalised frame where guests will receive images every six months for two years of the coral’s growth. Further to this, the Baros Marine Centre began planting coral lines in aid of further developing and maintaining the vitality of its house reef.
Baros is a bijou tropical island of 75 individual Villas either overwater or by the beach, many with private pools, one Baros Residence and two newly introduced large Baros Suites each with a private lounge and pool with Jacuzzi, shaded with lush vegetation and complete with round-the-clock service. There are three gourmet restaurants to choose from, two bars, a spa, an infinity pool, nature trails as well as the diving expeditions. The resort is conveniently located only 25 minutes by speed boat from the Maldives International Airport.
