BEN & JERRY’S & 10:10 CLIMATE ACTION BREEZE INTO TOWNS TO SUPPORT WIND ENERGY

BEN & JERRY’S & 10:10 CLIMATE ACTION BREEZE INTO TOWNS TO SUPPORT WIND ENERGY

From 6th July to 14th July, the ‘Blown Away Tour’ will be visiting towns across the UK and scooping ice cream in support of onshore wind.

As part of their latest climate justice campaign, ice cream activists Ben & Jerry’s and climate change charity 10:10 Climate Action will be giving the people of Britain food – or ice cream – for thought as they embark upon the Blown Away Tour.

Onshore wind is a hugely popular form of energy, with 76% of the UK population already known to be … ahem, ‘big ‘fans’ of it (see what we did there!)*. It’s also the UK’s cheapest source of new electricity, which makes it a no brainer choice for sustainable energy**. Despite this, the UK government has put the brakes on onshore wind developments – which are a vital part in the UK’s route to a greener future.

Knowing this, the folks at Ben & Jerry’s and their friends at 10:10 Climate Action have teamed up to help bring about the winds of change. Together they are encouraging ice cream and wind fans alike to sign their Blown Away petition, with the aim of inviting the government to lift its restrictions on onshore wind farms.

To stir up support, Ben & Jerry’s will be breezing into towns with the all-important, timely message: let’s unleash the power of wind! Serving up their newly renamed fan favourite flavours – Strawberry Breeze-cake, Cherry Gale-cia and Caramel Blew-Blew – 10:10 Climate Action and Ben & Jerry’s will be giving the low-down on why wind energy is crucial to tackling climate change, and collecting signatures for the Blown Away petition.

Kicking off at the NASS Festival in Shepton Mallet on 6th July, the team will be heading up, down and all around the country, sweeping fans off their feet with free scoops of their windy line-up, whilst chatting to ice cream lovers about how they can take action and join the clean energy movement.

The Blown Away Tour will be heading to the following locations:

6th July

  • NASS Festival – Royal Bath & West Showground, Shepton Mallet, Somerset BA4 6QN

7th July

  • Manchester’s Patagonia Store – 51 Kind St. Manchester M2 7AZ

11th & 12th July

  • Brighton’s Brighthelm Gardens – North Road, Brighton BN1 1YD

14th July

  • London’s Nomad Screening – Woodbury Down, Woodberry Grove, Finsbury Park, N4 2SB

Rebecca Baron, Social Mission Manager at Ben & Jerry’s said: “If we want to move away from polluting fossil fuels and build a future based on clean energy, then wind power is a vital ingredient. We’re calling on people to get behind our campaign by signing the petition and asking the government to give wind energy the support it needs.”

Ellie Roberts, Campaign Manager at 10:10 Climate Action, added: “The Blown Away campaign is about inspiring people to use their combined power to speed up a move towards clean, renewable energy. Supporting onshore wind energy in the UK will help protect the climate from irreparable damage, and people power can make a huge difference.”
