BLOCK bar and kitchen in Brighton: A punk rock wine bar with a Anglo-Spanish menu all cooked over fire, through Brighton’s only charcoal and wood burning BERTHA oven.
BLOCK bar and kitchen in Kemptown, Brighton has recently undergone a complete refurbishment to create one of Brighton’s most unique venues. The industrial chic setting with a concrete bar is the perfect place to drink, eat and share good times with friends. The garden had previously been voted Brighton’s best two years running and has now been further transformed during the recent opening of BLOCK. The garden will be covered with a bespoke marquee and fully heated so the outside space can now be enjoyed all year round.
The focus is very much offering excellent wine that is a bit different. We wanted to create a place where we could express our passion for wine in more inclusive way. The owner say’s “Wine is normally served in such a pompous way, although a lot of people drink wine in bars, but not wine bars. What we want to do is present quality, modern wine making in a new environment, something more akin to craft beer. With BLOCK you get great wine, from small wineries that are really pushing the boundaries with wine and how it’s drunk. Punk rock wine if you like…”
BLOCK offers Anglo-Spanish inspired dishes with a heavy focus on steak. All the food is cooked in our charcoal and wood burning Bertha oven. Chef Lloyd Jeffers explains his passion for working with the Bertha oven. “There is something incredibly satisfying about cooking over fire, which gives that extra layer of flavour. We use quality, local suppliers cooked simply over fire and let the ingredients speak for themselves”. There is also a great selection of Spanish and local cheese and charcuterie, fresh fish and vegetables, ideal to accompany a glass or two of the good stuff.
BLOCK also has a wide range of ever changing craft beers, an extensive cocktail list and a wide choice of high quality small batch spirits. We completely believe in the independent, from farm to brewer, from fisherman to gin distiller.
In the coming months BLOCK will be hosting events such as ‘Spanish Wine Tasting with Paella and Pinchos’, of course Beaujolais day, a few great craft tap take over’s plus small batch spirits nights as well.
We would love is you could support us with a feature, tasting, or review and keep the spirit of independence alive.
