Bookings surge with Eurotunnel Le Shuttle as holidaymakers plan post lockdown travel to France

Eurotunnel Le Shuttle is seeing growing demand for travel to the Continent this summer as France opens its borders and UK travellers are increasingly optimistic of an overseas summer holiday.

Bookings from Eurotunnel Le Shuttle are currently up 49% on last week’s figures with travellers taking advantage of the new Standard Refundable Ticket, introduced on 18th June to offer additional peace of mind should plans change.

Deborah Merrens, Chief Commercial Office at Eurotunnel Le Shuttle said: “For the last couple of weeks we have seen a gradual increase in bookings, and the ongoing relaxation of lock down rules has meant even more people are looking at their summer holiday options. We are advising anyone who might be considering a holiday in France this summer to book soon to ensure they get the times and dates they want. Should there be a change of plan, travellers can have peace of mind with one of our refundable tickets, or all of our tickets are amendable with no change fees.”

Eurotunnel Le Shuttle provides the only way to cross the Channel without having to leave the car; it is the best way to go on holiday whilst observing social distancing and limiting contact with others.  Passengers drive their cars onto the train at the Folkestone terminal and 35 minutes later drive off in Calais.  From leaving home to arriving at the final holiday destination, customers need not leave the safe bubble of their own car if they choose not to.

Prices start at just £72 per car for up to nine passengers.  There is also the added advantage to dog owners who can take their beloved four-legged friend in the car with them, as long as they are holders of a valid pet passport.

Recent research carried out by Eurotunnel has shown that the need to self-distance doesn’t stop after the journey. Over 80 percent of people questioned in the survey said they would choose to stay in self-catered accommodation, be it an apartment or house/villa after lockdown measures are lifted.

Merrens continued: “Our most recent enquiries and bookings are reflecting the above research.  People just want to load up the car and get away to somewhere different this summer without compromising safety.  Travelling with us and booking a self-catered property means they can be sure of the health and safety protocols during their stay and remain in their own contained group from leaving the UK.”
