Brighton-based community choir welcomes Irish composer VYVIENNE LONG to the Brighton Fringe Festival

Hullabaloo Quire is thrilled to present A Glass of Laughter – a collaborative concert with Irish cellist and composer Vyvienne Long, on Saturday 14th May at St George’s Church, Kemptown. In 2021, Hullabaloo Quire co-created a fabulous lockdown online cabaret, with Vyvienne – and now they’re bringing it to life!

A Glass of Laughter is hosted by Hullabaloo Quire and features original new choral music by  their MD, choral composer Kirsty Martin, as well as a set co-arranged and conceived by Vyvienne and Kirsty. The show will feature solo sets from Vyvienne Long, Hullabaloo and and a set from local singer-songwriter, Paul Diello and the evening will culminate with Vyvienne and Hullabaloo together – featuring songs from her latest album – enhanced by the harmonic Hullabaloo treatment!

Hullabaloo’s Musical Director, Kirsty Martin, explains: ‘I first heard Vyvienne’s lockdown anthem ‘A Glass of Laughter’ on Radio 6. Its humour, wistfulness, hope and pathos spoke to me instantly, so I contacted Vyvienne to ask if I could arrange it. She said yes! What followed is an evolving collaboration – and – half a choral album, 4 videos and a virtual cabaret later, we are so looking forward to finally performing In Real Life with Vyvienne as part of the Fringe Festival. Vyvienne’s hopeful and thoughtful songs really helped get the choir through lockdown and our online cabaret transformed a difficult time into a creative one. It means a great deal that she is coming to sing live with the choir. We’re all really excited for people to hear what we’ve been working on.’

Tickets are available in advance from Brown Paper Tickets, at £12/ £8 . Some tickets will be available on the door. Doors open at 7.00pm.
