Brighton charity to celebrate community and connection with celebrity guests at Winter Warmer

Loneliness charity Together Co, which has one of the longest running befriending services in the UK, will embrace tea and togetherness at a Winter Warmer to celebrate community and connection.

Celebrity ambassadors TV presenter Gail Porter and vet Dr Marc Abraham OBE will greet the people we support and their befriending matches at an afternoon tea the Brighton-based charity is hosting at the Doubletree by Hilton Brighton Metropole on Tuesday December 5.

More than 150 volunteers, including the people we support, friends of Together Co, the Mayor of Brighton and Hove Jackie O’Quinn, and Brighton and Hove City Council Leader Bella Sankey, will enjoy an afternoon of fun and entertainment to help celebrate the work Together Co does in the community.

The charity supports thousands of people, aged 18 to 102, through befriending and social prescribing, through a network of 500 volunteers.

The Winter Warmer will also mark the end of Together Co’s Big Give Christmas Challenge fundraising appeal which is aiming to raise £30,000 to fund its vital services.

Every donation made through the Big Give is matched pound for pound, meaning one donation has double the impact for the charity.
Together Co will use the money raised to increase befriending visits by more than 20,000, to train more volunteers, increase access to its monthly socials, and to connect people with more than 200 therapeutic and outdoor activities across the city.

April Baker, Together Co CEO, said: “Bringing people together is incredibly important for us. For some of the people attending our Winter Warmer it might be the only social event they have been to in a while, and we want to make sure everyone has a good time.

“Fundraising is vital to our work and without it. charities like ours would not exist.

“The Big Give Christmas Challenge is a chance for your donation to make a huge impact on our work.

“Everything we receive will be doubled through match-funding and will make a massive difference to people’s lives.”
