Brighton Gin scoops Award at the international wines & spirits competition 2017
Small batch, super premium Brighton Gin has been awarded across the board at the prestigious International Wines and Spirits competition (IWS) 2017 taking the Silver Award for best London dry gin, Bronze for best Gin and Tonic, Gold for Packaging and the overall White Spirits packaging trophy.
Today’s awards announcement comes shortly after Brighton Gin was voted the UK’s best gin in a public vote winning The People’s Choice Gin in the 2017 People’s Drinks Awards (June 2017)
Founded by a quintet of gin-loving Brightonians in 2014, Brighton Gin is made from organic British grain spirit, juniper, fresh orange and lime peel, locally-grown coriander seed and liver-friendly milk thistle.
Distilled beside the seaside, each bottle of Brighton Gin is filled, labelled and wax sealed by hand, the distinctive blue colour being that of Brighton’s seafront railings. The logo reflecting the lights of Brighton’s iconic pier features on a bottle label design inspired by a pier ride ticket. The packaging design was by Brighton-based design agency Our Design Agency who sought to differentiate Brighton Gin in a crowded gin market and draw on the unorthodox spirit of Brighton.
Founder and distiller Kathy Caton said: ‘We’re thrilled to receive this industry recognition for both our product and packaging. Brighton has taken its gin to its heart – it is stocked and served throughout the city and is gaining popularity nationally and increasingly internationally. This is due not just to the quality of the spirit but also our branding and packaging which creatively communicates that Brighton Gin is distilled for good time boys and girls everywhere and draws on the Brighton’s flagging the city’s creative, free-thinking, inventive and pleasure-seeking heritage and characters – both contemporary and historical.’
Versatile and adaptable, Brighton Gin is particularly delicious as a classic G&T served with a fine tonic and a slice of orange, the better to bring out the flavour of its citrus botanicals. It’s also smooth enough to be served neat over ice and makes the finest of Negronis. Locals often drink it as a unique Brighton Gin Rocktail – with tonic, ice and a chunk of Brighton rock.
