Brighton institutions Taboo and Hotel Pelirocco get intimate for new room
Brighton’s oldest sex shop will leave its mark on the hedonistic party Hotel Pelirocco with the opening of a new Taboo-themed room in February 2022. The naughty-but-nice space is being designed to encourage guests’ adventurous side, exploring the playfulness that Taboo aims to bring out in their customers in-store.
The new room will feature Taboo’s signature theme of teal walls, antique ecclesiastical wood, gold leaf and sumptuous deep red velvet accents. A gilded St Andrew’s cross, gilded ecclesiastical bed with anchor points and red velvet chaise longue set the tone, with a mirrored ceiling bringing the room’s design to its climax. With its spectacular view down to the seafront and the i360Brighton, the sky’s the limit in this titillating top-floor room.
The re-design is part of the annual room update at Hotel Pelirocco, England’s most rock’n’roll hotel. Boasting 19 individually themed bedrooms, the iconic saucy seaside stopover is the ultimate destination for anyone seeking to add a side of glamour and hedonism to their getaway.
This new coupling between Hotel Pelirocco and Taboo brings together two Brighton institutions known for leading the way. With its ground-breaking design and female-friendly approach, Taboo changed the look and feel of sex shops when it launched in 2003 and the ‘Dolce and Gabbana of sex shops’ (The Guardian) has a national reputation thanks to appearances in various TV shows including Channel 4’s ‘A Very British Sex Shop’.
Hotel Pelirocco opened in 2000 to offer an alternative to Brighton’s traditional accommodation options of either ostentatious Regency grandeur or faded chintz. It delivers an outrageous alternative for anyone seeking excitement and sparked the trend for themed hotels in the UK.
Tim Richardson, founder of Taboo, says: ‘It was an absolute honour to be invited to design the latest themed room at the Hotel Pelirocco. It’s about time that our two landmark Brighton businesses got into bed together!’
Together, Taboo and Hotel Pelirocco reflect Brighton’s melting pot reputation, embracing sexuality in all its forms, genders and ages. The new Taboo-themed room is a perfect union of these two legendary Brighton institutions.
The Taboo room will be open for fun from 3rd February.
