British Airways i360 celebrates Older Persons Day with free flights for the over-70s

United Nations International Day of Older Persons  – October 1st every year.

British Airways i360 is encouraging people to take an older person out for the day by offering free flights to the over-70s on Saturday October 1st, when accompanied by one paying adult each.

The offer is available in support of the United Nations International Day of Older Persons which takes place on October 1st every year.

British Airways i360 CEO Eleanor Harris said: “On United Nations International Day of Older Persons we hope to encourage people to reach out to an older person in their community who might be lonely or who might not otherwise have the confidence to venture out, and to give them a special day out at British Airways i360.”

Research shows that social isolation can affect a person’s health as well as their wellbeing. Local charity Trust for Developing Communities (TDC) works with older people in deprived parts of Brighton and Hove.

A TDC spokesperson said: “According to census statistics for Brighton and Hove, 13% of the city’s population are aged 65 or over, with 41% of them living in single-person households, that’s 10% more than the national average. Many of the older men and women we meet do not have any regular interaction with other people and are struggling with poor health, low income and loneliness.”

Free flights for the over-70s are available on Saturday 1st October and can be booked on the day only, at the British Airways i360 ticket office. Each qualifying person must be accompanied by a paying adult (this can include those paying pensioner or local resident member rates). Wheelchair-users are encouraged to book in advance by calling 03337 720360.
