CATHAY PACIFIC LAUNCHES ONLY NON-STOP FLIGHT TO HONG KONG FROM LONDON GATWICK

New service to offer more choice and flexibility for travellers

Cathay Pacific Airways saw its first flight take off from London Gatwick to Hong Kong on Friday the 2nd of September. The only non-stop service connecting Gatwick and Hong Kong, it is Cathay Pacific’s first long-haul route to feature the brand-new Airbus 350-900 aircraft.

Ideally placed to serve both leisure and business travellers, the new four-times-weekly service will operate from Gatwick’s South Terminal. Featuring Business Class, Premium Economy Class and Economy Class seats, Cathay Pacific’s state-of-the-art A350-900 also provides inflight connectivity in all cabin classes for the first time. Passengers will be able to use their own mobile devices to browse the internet, send and receive emails, and stay connected on social media, for a small fee.

With a real focus on offering passengers more choice and flexibility, the new service will provide those living in London, the South East and South of England a convenient way to travel to Hong Kong and beyond via the airline’s extensive hub in Hong Kong.

The new service will complement the airline’s current five-times-daily service from Heathrow Airport for a total of 39 flights a week between London and Hong Kong – more than any other carrier. In addition to serving London, Cathay Pacific also offers a four-times-weekly service between Manchester and Hong Kong.

The premium service provided by Cathay Pacific’s attentive cabin crew, coupled with the airline’s industry-leading inflight entertainment system, means that passengers will be assured of a superior experience when they travel between Gatwick and Hong Kong.

Cathay Pacific’s General Manager Europe, Neil Glenn said: “We are committed to providing our passengers with greater choice and flexibility, and this new non-stop service from Gatwick to Hong Kong is testament to this. With 2016 marking Cathay Pacific’s 70th anniversary, we are proud to now offer passengers three non-stop routes from the UK to Hong Kong, and then beyond.

“Meeting the increasing demand from both business and leisure travellers, we are delighted that this route will also be served by the new-generation A350. Featuring Cathay Pacific’s latest inflight products across all cabins, we are confident that this will enrich the experience of passengers and help us to deliver a life well travelled. The A350 also employs innovative technology and design which improves not only passenger comfort and well-being, but also the efficiency, effectiveness and operational performance of the aircraft.”

Guy Stephenson, Chief Commercial Officer, Gatwick Airport, said: “Hong Kong is the premier gateway to China and we are delighted to welcome Cathay Pacific – one of the world’s premier airlines – to Gatwick.

“The new flights mark an important milestone in the growth of the Gatwick long haul network, which now more than ever provides the UK economy with vital routes into the world’s most important markets.”
