Champagne Charles Heidsieck returns With Season Two Of Maverick Encounters

Award winning Champagne Charles Heidsieck continues to celebrate modern-day mavericks this year with Season Two of its pioneering event series, ‘Maverick Encounters’.

Maverick Encounters highlights today’s ‘mavericks’ – entrepreneurs who push boundaries, buck trends and thrive in the face of adversity – embodying all the characteristics that reflect the House’s legendary and innovative founder, Charles-Camille Heidsieck.

Charles’ adventurous flair and entrepreneurial spirit resulted in his momentous success in becoming the first champagne merchant to conquer the US market in 1852 – earning him the moniker ‘Champagne Charlie’. His gift for creating truly unique champagne, pioneering new territories and for challenging conventions made him a maverick of his time, a spirit which remains at the heart of the House today.

After an unforgettable Season One (see details in notes to editors), Charles Heidsieck returns with a new line-up of maverick entrepreneurs, who will each co-host an exclusive workshop experience with Charles, exploring a particular sense related to their craft and the links and sensory parallels between their own processes and the creation of Charles Heidsieck’s famous cuvées.

The first Marverick Encounter event of Season Two will explore the sense of taste at the groundbreaking Brighton restaurant, SILO – the UK’s first entirely waste-free restaurant. Founded by pioneering chef, Douglas McMaster, his championing of unusual ingredients and his environmentally innovative approach to the industrial food system make him a true culinary maverick. Guests will be invited to roll up their sleeves and blend bespoke seasoned butters designed to complement Charles Heidsieck cuvées as they experience a bread and butter champagne pairing masterclass, followed by a Charles Heidsieck Champagne paired 4-course tasting menu.

September’s event will be a journey into scent in partnership with independent perfumer, Maya Njie. Guests will learn how to reconstruct the notes found in the House’s most iconic champagnes into a fragrance inspired by their preferred cuvée. The workshop will inspire guests to discover the world of aroma and how our olfactory sense unlocks our understanding of taste.

November’s encounter guides us to the sense of touch, where guests will meet self-taught leatherworking craftsman and author Otis Ingrams. Otis will invite guests to participate in a leather craft workshop, where they will create their very own naturally-tanned leather champagne bottle carrier. This tactile masterclass will lead into an enlightening Charles Heidsieck tasting masterclass.

The final maverick of Season Two will be revealed later this year.
