Covers’ Help for Hospices returns with £30,000 fundraising target

After a break due to the pandemic, Covers Timber & Builders Merchants’ hugely successful fundraising initiative Help for Hospices will return to its Brighton depot in September.

The team at Brighton, along with the company’s 14 other depots, is aiming to raise £30,000 on behalf of local hospice charities across the south of England, including The Martlets Hospice.

From Monday 13th September until Friday 17th September, Covers will be donating £5 for each registered customer that makes a purchase during the event. The generous company has pledged to contribute at least £20,000 of its own money to the campaign.

On Monday 13th September, volunteers from Martlets Hospice will join staff at Covers in Brighton for a Best of British themed ‘builders bake off’. Whether it’s a classic Victoria sponge cake or the perfect pork pie, Covers’ staff will showcase their finest sweet and savoury baking efforts for charity. Following the competition, which will be judged by the hospice’s volunteers, all bakes will be sold or auctioned to Covers’ staff and customers. All proceeds raised from the bake sale will go towards the final fundraising amount.

The Martlets Hospice provides people affected by terminal illness in Brighton & Hove and neighbouring areas the very best care and support. Its expert team helps people to do the things they love with the time they have left. As a hospice charity, Martlets is only partially funded by the NHS and relies on the generosity of its local community to reach everyone who needs its help.

Rupert Green, Chairman of Covers, said:

“Covers’ Help for Hospices campaign has been running since 2015 and, despite having to put activities on hold last year, we are extremely proud to have given more than £155,000 to our chosen charities over the past six years. Our local hospices are absolutely crucial to the communities they serve and rely heavily on donations to ensure they can continue to operate. We are looking forward to resuming our popular Help for Hospices charity week for 2021 and hope as many people as possible join us to support these extremely worthy causes.”
