Food waste charity partners with local restaurant to help tackle food poverty

Fatto a Mano, meaning “made by hand” in Italian, started in 2015, serving pizzas using top-quality ingredients. With friendly fast service and a simple menu that’s affordable to all, Fatto a Mano are part of the local communities our teams live in and work in.

FareShare Sussex is a charity working in our community to tackle two increasingly critical issues: hunger and food waste.

Fatto a Mano supports the vision of FareShare Sussex, of a better food system without waste, with the charity redistributing surplus food that would otherwise be thrown away, to over 120 local charities and community groups that support vulnerable people.

The partnership is being kicked off this December by raising £1,000 for the purchase of a large-scale bread slicer, to aid to the great work FareShare Sussex do in our communities, tackling hunger and food waste.

Fatto a Mano will raise the money by donating 10p from every pizza their customers order and are hoping to beat the target in record time.

Rupert Davidson said, “This December Fatto a Mano are proud to support FareShare’s tireless work, which relies upon fund raising and volunteering within local communities to keep FareShare going.”

24 million slices of bread are wasted every day (about 91,000 slices in Brighton & Hove alone). FareShare Sussex saves over 350 un-sliced loaves per week from going to land fill equalling around 200kg or 800 pizzas!

Sabrina Carter, Communications and Fundraising Manager at FareShare said, “We are thrilled to be a charity partner of Fatto a Mano, who are committed to tackling food waste in the community. To be able to share our message to their ethically minded customers is an exciting prospect.”

Having their own bread slicer enables FareShare to achieve their zero-waste bread target by slicing and splitting loaves for distribution.

With every pizza ordered at Fatto a Mano this December you’re making a valuable contribution.

Every Slice Counts!
