FUNK THE FAMILY & FUNK THE FORMAT FESTIVALS 2016
2 Days of festivals , sun and good times is back on Saturday the 28th and 29th May at Hove Park.
‘NOTTING HILL CARNIVAL IN THE HEART OF BRIGHTON’
Following two spectacular sell-out festivals, Funk The Family is back with a bigger, better line-up and second adults-only day; Funk The Format.
Accelerating from 1,000 attendees at Hove Lagoon in 2014 to 4,500 attendees at Hove Park in 2015, team FTF introduce the festival scene to their elder sister, Funk The Format.
Like Funk The Family, the brand new Funk The Format Festival is a champion of soul, latin, funk, reggae, disco, hip hop, house, jungle, jazz and, of course, funk. Like Funk The Family, the second day focuses on good vibes, good music and good fun.
“Both Funk The Family and Funk The Format offer something that Brighton & Hove has been missing,” says FTF founder and director, Lucy ‘Elle J’ Small. “I moved from London to Brighton & Hove nearly nine years ago to raise my family. There is so much to do here, but there was no event that offered something really credible, musical, creative and fun for me or my family.”
A former freelance music journalist, Lucy ‘Elle J’ Small now presents her popular Funk The Format radio show on Brighton & Hove’s Radio Reverb 97.2FM and promotes her Funk The Format Club Tropicana nights between curating the festivals and raising her two young boys.
“Like Funk The Family, I firmly believe Funk The Format is filling a much-needed gap in Brighton’s music scene. There are several credible events here but they cater for either a very young demographic or indie/electro music lovers. We want to bring that Notting Hill Carnival vibe to Brighton & Hove.”
With that in mind, the team have announced that both Norman Jay MBE and Soul II Soul will play Funk The Format Festival.
Meanwhile, Funk The Family announces its “Creatures of The Beach” theme with Vula (the voice of Basement Jaxx) and The Atlantic Horns, DJ Format, Harleigh Blu, King Porter Stomp, plus a plethora of outstanding, free family entertainment, including The Circus Project’s trapeze workshops, archery, family yoga, diabolo workshops, Cirque Du Funk big top, Punch & Judy shows, breakdancing and many more.
The Funk The Family and Funk The Format Festivals take place during England’s largest arts festival, Brighton Fringe.
