Goodwood Health Club has celebrated its 30th birthday
Goodwood Health Club has celebrated its 30th birthday with an anniversary party for members, some of which have been part of the club since it was first launched. One of the oldest health clubs in Sussex, opened in 1989, equipped with an indoor swimming pool, gymnasium, sauna, steam room, fitness studio, tennis and squash courts within the Goodwood hotel complex and now has more than 2,000 members.
Goodwood Health Club and Spa Manager Jen Evans-Brewer said: “I’ve worked here for nearly 10 years and during that time I have seen the health club flourish to become one of the best leisure facilities in the area. “Our health club is so much more than a gym, this has become a social club and a home away from home.”
Celebrating 30 years of the health club, Goodwood held a party with live entertainment, which received an overwhelmingly enthusiastic response from current and new members. As part of the anniversary celebrations new members are being offered one month’s free membership if they join the health club before the end of August.
“We are extremely proud to have reached our 30thanniversary and look forward to the next 30 years. All of the Goodwood health club team are passionate about what they do and are focused on delivering outstanding customer experiences;” Ms Evans-Brewer added.
Founding Goodwood Health Club members John and Lorian Coutts(Pictured)were some of the first to join in 1989 after they moved to Chichester. “Goodwood is so much more than just a health club. We see it as our second home, which is why we have stayed loyal members since the beginning,” said John Coutts.
“My wife and I are here at least five times a week since we retired and we plan our week around the activities at the health club. We love being able to try a class in the outdoor garden studio, go to The Kennels, play golf, listen to a talk or try a new experience on the estate. We have made friendships here that have lasted over the years and shared our lives over coffee together,” he said.
John’s wife Lorian, uses the health club to keep in shape with swimming, playing tennis and taking daily walks on the estate. “We were looking for something more than just a regular sports club and we love the ambiance at Goodwood. I enjoy the varied, challenging and holistic programme here,” she added.
Founding member Roy Smith said: “Time creeps on you quick and this 30 years certainly has. We have trained up the Hill and down for marathons and triathlons in the beautiful grounds of Goodwood. Lots of lazy Sunday afternoons chasing the kids and now we stroll to the Kennels. We have met lots of lovely people, staff, members and we wish the club all the very best for the future and the next 30 years.” As part of the anniversary celebrations new members are being offered one month’s free membership if they join The Goodwood Health Club before the end of August.
