Headmasters: Head & Shoulders Above The Rest

Headmasters: Head & Shoulders Above The Rest

Located in the trendy heart of the city’s iconic North Laine, Headmasters Brighton has tamed and beautified the tresses of vintage-lovers, city slickers and fashionistas alike, for almost a decade.

Absolute’s Shelley Welti chatted to Hugo Ratzel, owner of Headmasters Brighton to hear about his creative team, head-turning trends we should be trying for AW17 and how the vibrant city inspires their creations…

Hi Hugo! Tell us about your talented team

I have a very experienced team whose skills are constantly being updated to keep them ahead of the latest trends and techniques.

We are proud to say Headmasters (which now has 56 salons nationwide) has the highest number of L’Oreal Master Colour Experts per salon than any other salon group. This is the highest colour qualification in the industry, meaning that we can confidently create bespoke colour for each of our clients.

We also have a member of the creative art team based in Brighton, Alfie Preffer, and men’s specialist Vanessa Koeb.

We bet your men’s grooming services are popular – what do these include?

All Headmasters stylists are trained in men’s hair but our men’s specialists have undergone an extra six months of intensive training exclusively in men’s grooming.

Their cutting, clippering and grooming expertise is of the very highest standard, giving you the sharpest of cuts, which just like a bespoke suit, is perfectly tailored to you.

Services include eyebrow tidy and trims, grey blending and scalp treatments for sensitivity, dandruff and hair loss.

Headmasters Brighton has been creating new looks for clients since 2008, what do you think makes your salon so popular?

As well as the amazing hairdressing skills we have in the salon, we also pride ourselves on our customer service and want all of our clients to walk out the door feeling confident and looking forward to their next trip to Headmasters Brighton.

What do you enjoy most about working for Headmasters?

Headmasters are constantly keeping our clients ahead on trends, introducing new blow-dries and colouring techniques to ensure that we produce beautiful hair. Not only is training and education provided throughout our careers at Headmasters but our talent is rewarded through competitions.

January is when our annual Headmasters Awards Ceremony takes place. It’s a night where we can celebrate the team’s success over the year and when everyone can have fun with their teams.

Speaking of fun, with autumn approaching, which styles should we be asking for? Any new, exciting trends we need to try for AW17?

Metallic hair was seen all over the AW17 catwalks during fashion week and the trend is not stopping there. Shades of silver and platinum are being favoured by celebrities such as Kim Kardashian and Cara Delevingne. The shine and glossy effect from metallic colours is what this season is all about – leaving brassy tones behind.

For clients looking to achieve that metallic shine, they can book in to see one of Brighton’s six L’Oreal master colour specialists.

Another trend to watch out for is red hair! When you think of this time of year, you think rich, warm, autumnal colour and with #redhair being one of the most used hair hashtags of the season, there is no time like the present. Ask for a bespoke red colour to work with your skin tone and eye colour; whether it’s a burnt copper or cool burgundy. Book your free colour consultation today.

Headmasters are especially renowned for their amazing colour services. Your Colour Sale starts soon – is it true clients can get 50% off a new look?
