Why not start as you mean to go on and treat yourself, with a shopping trip to Milan. Words by Igor Srzic
What I most love about Milan is that even though it offers many entertainment, fashion and cultural opportunities,it is neither too hectic nor too big – and in one hour and forty minutes from Gatwick you can be in the most fashionable city in the world. Milan. Recently I took my personal shopping client there for a long weekend of shopping and styling. He wanted to look stylish and stand out from the crowd so Milan was an obvious choice, as Italian men are so well known for their style and good fashion sense.
When planning where to stay, you should definitely consider The Art Hotel Navigli (www.arthotelnavigli.com), named since its in the Navigli quarter, Milan’s most charismatc quarter. With its waterways and surprising dock in Piazza XXIV Maggio, the Navigli still preserves the old architecture and ambiance neighbourhood pace and cordiality that still make strolling through this quarter pleasant. Think typical “case di ringhiera” – homes with access through open balconies with a balustrade, all very Romeo and Juliet.
From the Art Hotel it is just a few stops on the Metro to reach the centre to start your shopping experience.
Or if you like a something different boutique Hotel the Enterprise www.enterprisehotel.com could be the hotel for you, combining inovative design and traditional efficiency.. Situated in one of the most lively sections of the city, the hotel’s location is definitely strategic: Enterprise Hotel is a short walk away from Fieramilanocity, 550m from MIC Milan Convention Centre, on the way to the Pero-Rho New Trade Fair Centre, and a few minutes from the city centre. It is close to Castello Sforzesco, Arco della Pace and La Triennale museum, and a very short distance from San Siro stadium. Most of the trendiest, most fashionable clubs and hangouts are also nearby.
A great place to go shopping is the area near the Milan Cathedral (Duomo di Milano) in the centre of the town, where you’’ll not only find your favourite high street shops like Zara, Lacoste, Benetton but also the very high end shops like Prada, Gucci,Versace and Louis Vuitton. Depending on your budget you can choose where you’re going to shop and its all in such a walkable distance, that its easy – which is a definite plus for guys who don’t find shopping fun.
If you are a fan of Italian style ,tailoring and fabric ,this is the place to be. You can find a lot of mens tailoring shops with a great of variety and good quality off the peg items with amazing barging.
A real “Must” is a visit to “Davis” where my styling client and I really felt at home, and came out with a great new wardrobe.
