It’s almost Christmas, and what a year it has been!
I’m sure that most of us will be glad to see the back of 2020. While it hasn’t been our favourite year at Bone Idol, we have been so heartened by the wonderful support and love that our clients have shown us, during this very difficult time for independent businesses, both for ourselves, and for all the wonderful local firms that make this city so special.
We are also so happy to be writing our first EVER column for Absolute Brighton, and in the coming months will be using this platform to share a whole range of doggy tips and ideas, from the experts at our Salon, Grooming School and Dog Food Brand. This week, as it’s the festive season we enlisted the help of good girl Nora, the fabulous Brighton-based Labradoodle who is the face and attitude of our exclusive cold-pressed food Nora Nose Best.
Nora really does know best, and when it comes to Christmas dinners she knows what we should and shouldn’t be serving to our canine friends. While Nora is sure you will all be aware of the no chocolate rules for dogs by now. But unfortunately us dogs are unable to eat everything our humans may be tucking into. So please make sure your human, and any humans that visit you this holiday, know the rules!
Chocolate
It’s worth repeating this warning, with so much of it around during the festive period, it’s better that everyone knows!
Stuffing
While yummy in their tummy for most humans the herbs and spices can be harmful to our digestion and the onions can be poisonous
Nuts
A Christmas staple for many a coffee table but some nuts can be toxic for animals so best placed out of reach from naughty noses.
Onions
As mentioned in the stuffing, these are poisonous for us dogs so anything that included them should be avoided as a cheeky treat. Christmas pudding and
Christmas cake
A classic and they smell so good! But they are packed full of raisins and sultanas which are poisonous as are their juicier version grapes.
Turkey skin and bones
The skin is fatty and may cause loose stools or diarrhoea. While the bones can splinter causing harm to sensitive mouths or worse insides!
What to look out for: Symptoms of poisoning in dogs can vary tremendously depending on the type of poison they’ve encountered. These signs can range from vomiting to breathing difficulties to drooling.
Ingested poisons can often cause sickness, diarrhoea, agitation and possibly lead to organ damage, heart issues and even death. If you are worried at any point that your dog has managed to eat anything on this list or your dog as any of the symptoms mentioned above, then please contact your Vet immediately. The sooner treatment is given the better.
