LOCAL ARTS ORGANISATION LAUNCH TOURS OF BRIGHTON & HOVE TO TELL THE STORIES OF UNDERREPRESENTED COMMUNITIES.
Alternative Tours of Brighton & Hove celebrate the rich culture in the city, told through the voices of the community
Sussex Dance Network have developed a new programme of Alternative Tours of Brighton & Hove, as part of the ABCD Plan for Cultural Recovery. The project engages local artists, organisations and community members to share perspectives of the city that often go untold. Combining movement, visual art and performance – the tours invite members of the wider public to engage with these stories to explore their surroundings in a new way.
Cultural recovery is essential for the Arts & Culture sector as a whole to regenerate and survive; an inclusive approach to growth and opportunity is vital to ensure that no voices are left behind. Through this project Sussex Dance Network aim to bring people back together, strengthen local connections and champion a truer representation of the Culture in the City.

About the ABCD Plan for Cultural Recovery
The disruption of the pandemic brought together over 100 creatives in Brighton & Hove to explore how arts & culture can be more inclusive, sustainable and collaborative in the City in the future. This resulted in a recovery plan that runs to the end of 2022 and has so far raised over £350k for the cultural sector in the City. The plan is overseen by an independent group of people formed of a Governance Group and a series of Working Groups. The aims are to create paid work and professional opportunities for creative workers in the City, to develop a more inclusive cultural offer and to encourage partnership working to strengthen the creative sector in the long term.
