London Lifestyle. South Place Hotel
This spring come up to London for a weekend break and make sure you don’t overlook staying in The City of London. It’s all too easy to get swept up in West London’s tourist attractions, however step off the tourist beaten track and venture in to the City for rare weekend finds and great deals.
One such place is the South Place Hotel. This 80-bedroom hotel is boutique in style and brings glamour and a chic feel to the City of London. This perfect oasis in the City, is ideal for meeting up with friends to party the night away or to relax, recharge and indulge yourself. It’s where ‘historical London meets the cultural East End’. You can arrive for the weekend and never even need to leave the hotel, or you can use it as your base for sightseeing and shopping.
This super plush, sleek and modern hotel has four bars and two restaurants to choose from and is nestled round the corner from Liverpool Street and Moorgate mainline stations, while being a mere stones-throw from Shoreditch and Spitalfields. The South Place Hotel is amazingly easy to get to from the coast. Just hop on a direct train to London Bridge then jump on the Northern Line (2 stops northbound) to Moorgate underground station.
The ground floor is home to the 3 Restaurant and offers a sumptuous menu. If staying over the weekend you must try the Bellini Brunch. Choose at least 2 courses from the a la carte or set menu and then choose either bottomless Prosecco, Bellini’s or Bloody Mary’s for just an extra £15 during your two-hour sitting. On my last visit the steak was perfect and the waffles divine. The service in the restaurant is brilliant with the staff being friendly and attentive, and they ensure that your glass is constantly refilled. This Valentines, make a reservation and dash up to London and enjoy the exquisite 3 course Valentines menu with a glass of Moet.
The 3 Bar is a spacious and opulent cocktail lounge, perfect for groups or to enjoy a coffee after lunch with a good book. It’s light and comfortable with huge chairs and plush jewelled coloured couches to relax in. They also have an extensive cocktail list and if you can’t see your favourite on the menu then the expert mixologist will whip up your desired tipple straight away.
Head up to the first floor to find the Secret Garden bar. This open roof bar is the perfect hideaway for your weekend break.
The seventh floor plays host to The Angler terrace bar and restaurant. The terrace with BBQs in the summer is a welcome retreat from the city heat and is jam packed over summer months so naturally its first come first served. The Angler Michelin starred seafood restaurant is perfect for special occasions and celebrations.
The hotel decor is vibrant and contemporary with the interiors designed by Conran & Partners. Everything is sleek, modern and fresh while having a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The bedrooms are thoughtfully designed, with even the standard double rooms feeling spacious and light. Each room comes with the latest technology such as Bang & Olufsen televisions, free in-room cinema, and hangover kits, while the dark marble opulent bathrooms are stocked with chic, good quality, UK sourced toiletries.
The South Place Hotel offers a private membership and for a tiny £40 per month you can join their club, the SPIES Society. As a member you get exclusive invites to their parties and events and full access to the gym and spa! This is amazing value for such wonderful facilities anywhere in London. This is certainly worth doing if you’re a London regular or a commuter working in the City. http://spies.london/benefitsfaq/
