Mammoth 12 hours of Sparring at Charity Event
Boxers are limbering up to throw some punches for a mammoth 12 hours on Saturday 29th February.
East Brighton ABC Boxing Club and ex-amateur boxer Steve O’Brien are hosting a charity sparring event in Whitehawk raising money for The Crew Club in Brighton and Children with Cancer UK.
The boxers will be sparring for 100 rounds and Steve will take part in 50 of them. Steve was a regular at the Crew Club Youth Centre in Whitehawk as a teenager but many years later joined Hawks Heroes, a football project co-created by the Crew Club supporting men’s health and wellbeing.
Steve told us “ the last few years have been really tough for me but The Crew Club gave me much needed support and got me back on my feet. I decided to put on this event as I wanted other men to have the opportunity to get fit, have fun, and re-connect with each other”.
Crew Club co-founder Darren Snow said “I’ve been personally very much affected by cancer. My wife Lorraine has been through cancer treatment and last year one of our young Crew Club members, Darren Moses, passed away as a result of cancer. He was just 13 years old and it was heart breaking. This event will be raising money for a brilliant cancer charity”.
The event takes place from 10am to 10pm at The Crew Club, 26 Coolham Drive, BN2 5QW.
