MODERN SPECTACLE MAKER CUBITTS TEAMS UP WITH DAVID SHRIGLEY TO SUPPORT THE GUIDE DOGS FOR THE BLIND ASSOCIATION
Cleaning cloth made from recycled plastic bottles features Shrigley’s artwork.
Art is a concept that has been ingrained in Cubitts’ culture since the start, and for their latest spectacle cleaning cloth they have partnered with renowned artist and illustrator David Shrigley on a limited edition light pink cloth featuring his artwork I loved you from the first moment I saw you. The Cubitts × David Shrigley cloths will be available from Valentine’s Day.
Made from recycled plastic bottles, all proceeds from the sale of the cloth (priced at £5) will be donated to Shrigley’s charity of choice, The Guide Dogs for the Blind Association. Over the past couple of years Cubitts has partnered with a number of UK-based artists, such as Tracy Emin and Camille Walala, raising over £20,000 for charity to date.
“I’m very happy to collaborate with Cubitts to help Guide Dogs,” said Shrigley. “Many charities compete for our attention these days and sometimes the vital work that Guide Dogs does can be overlooked. This charity changes people’s lives and needs our support to continue.”
“We like to celebrate everyday objects, whether that be your spectacles, or a quotidian cleaning cloth,” said Cubitts Founder, Tom Broughton. “It’s an honour they can be a receptacle for David’s work, of which we’ve long admired. I hope that each clean will bring a smidgen of joy into your life, and raise money for a very worthwhile cause.”
On the collaboration, Shrigley commented,“The lens cloth plays a vital role in the fight against smudgy lenses. Artists make things for people to look at. Spectacles help people to look at things more clearly. The lens cloth helps people to see things clearer still, therefore, this collaboration is a very good thing.”
Cubitts × David Shrigley cloths are available from Cubitts ten London stores or online at https://www.cubitts.com from 14th February.
