MPB CTO wins prestigious Women in IT Award

Sophie Davies-Patrick, the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Brighton-based company MPB, has won the CTO of the Year award at the Women in IT Awards.

MPB, the world’s largest online platform for used photography and videography kit, is driven by its technology, and this award recognises that role that Sophie and her team have played in its successes over the past year, including securing a £49.8 million investment and launching a new operation in Berlin.

“Sophie is an incredible asset to MPB, and this award is recognition of the enormous contribution she has made in driving our business forward, both through her outstanding leadership and her vision for our platform,” said Matt Barker, Founder and CEO at MPB. “Over the past year, she has implemented an ambitious strategy which ensured that our company could continue to grow, making kit more affordable and accessible to more consumers around the world. She’s instrumental in the success of our business and we could not be prouder.”

The company, which currently employs more than 200 people across Brighton, Brooklyn and Berlin, recently announced plans to invest in its technology team, creating 40 new roles in Brighton for software engineers, data scientists and IT specialists. Continuing Sophie and her team’s work, the new roles will support the company as it continues to transform the way that people, buy, sell and trade photo and video kit.

Fresh from her award-win, Sophie said “I’m honoured to receive this award, but it’s really testament to the incredible and talented team I have around me. As a result of our commitment to a new strategy and a lot of hard work, our technology has gone from strength to strength – and the team is more innovative, productive and happier than ever.

“We’re in an exciting new phase of our tech development, and we’re looking to welcome a pool of new talent from our home community in Brighton so that we can continue to create a world-leading platform that inspires and supports visual storytellers around the world.”
