Multi-Award Winning Childrens Improv Storytelling Show ‘The Extraordinary Time-Travelling Adventures of Baron Munchausen’ returns to Brighton Fringe!

Leicester Comedy Festival Best Children’s Show winners ‘The Extraordinary Time-Travelling Adventures of Baron Munchausen’ is coming to Brighton on from 28th May to 1st June!

Though best known to UK audiences through Terry Gilliam’s 1988 film ‘The Adventures of Baron Munchausen’, Baron Munchausen was a real-life Prussian nobleman whose wildly exaggerated tales of his past adventures inspired Rudold Erich Raspe to publish a fictionalised version in ‘The Surprising Adventures of Baron Munchausen’, and the Baron’s adventures are still fantastically popular all over the world.

In the show, grown-up comedians are put on the spot and challenged to invent their own increasingly ridiculous tall-tales using nothing but their wits, some silly hats and the (often rather cruel!) suggestions of an audience of children. It’s based on a multi-award winning RPG deigned by James Wallis inspired by Erik Raspe’s Munchausen stories. In addition to its 2020 win in Leicester, it won Best Children’s Show at the Greater Manchester Fringe 2019, was nominated for ‘Best Children’s Show’ in Leicester in 2018, and has had four hit runs at the Edinburgh

Festival Fringe.

In the words of Nigel Lovell, the show’s creator:

“It’s such fun. You never know what the audience are going to throw at you, so you’re constantly kept on your toes. Every show’s different, but they’re always absolutely insane!”

In the words of the Baron himself:

“Your reality, sir, is lies and balderdash and I am delighted to say I have no grasp of it

whatsoever!”

(Terry Gilliam, 1988)

Expect swashbuckling tales of pirates and princesses, giant squids and living portraits, unicorns and dragons, jewels and duels, submarines and time-machines, trips to the moon and castles made of cheese. And all of it absolutely completely and irrefutably true… definitely!
