Next year, RICK ASTLEY is right on track for one 2020’s most unmissable shows…
On Saturday 12th September, the 80s teen icon turned venerable songwriting elder-statesman will be headlining a very special show held at Lingfield Park Resort Racecourse, Surrey.
Proving that you don’t have to be a Queen fan to enjoy “a day at the races” and great music simultaneously, this unique show will invite audiences to enjoy an entire day of racing at one of the UK’s most prestigious arenas, with the added bonus of a full RICK ASTLEY set late into the evening.
Like placing a 100/1 bet at the races and winning, Rick Astley’s story is perhaps one of contemporary music’s most unlikely tales. Emerging from the Stock, Aitken and Waterman stable at the tender age of 21, from his role as a former tea boy Astley became one of the biggest stars on the planet. His era-defining classic ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’ topped charts the world over and catapulted the young Lancastrian on a journey that would encompass 8 consecutive UK Top 10 hits and 40 million sales. But almost as soon as it had started, it was all over; and after just six years in pop Rick disappeared without trace from the public eye.
Nearly 25 years later, Rick rolled back into our lives with new material destined to win hearts all over again. All written, produced and performed by Rick, his momentous ’50’ album in 2016 staked a place in UK Top 10 for 7 weeks raking in over 400,000 sales. Whilst in hot pursuit, 2018’s emotionally-charged ‘Beautiful Life’ album cemented his remarkable comeback with the fifth Top 10 album of his career and a #6 chart position.
And this year, in celebration of his extraordinary story, Rick has just released a new career-spanning compilation ‘The Best of Me’ which compiles recent fan favourites such as ‘Keep Singing’, ‘Angels On My Side’ and ‘Beautiful Life’, alongside his chart-busting hits like ‘Take Me To Your Heart’, ‘Together Forever’, ‘Cry For Help’ and of course, ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’.
With such premier pop at his fingertips, not to mention a reputation for the playfully unpredictable, demand to Rick performing live has never been higher. At his exceptional live sets, fans can expect to hear the favourites, of course, but expect a few wildcards too; with inspired covers – as vintage as AC/DC’s ‘Highway To Hell’ to contemporary classics like Calvin Harris and Rag ‘n’ Bone Man’s ‘Giant’ often dropped in and reflective of Rick’s love of music.
With such a winning formula to drive crowds into a frenzy, in 2019 alone Rick has performed to over 500,000 people at 38 stadium shows with Take That, as well as making legendary appearances Isle of Wight Festival, Pub in the Park and Chris Evans’ Carfest. The singer now sets his sights on what promises to be a day to remember with his Live After Racing show in 2020.
Against all odds, Rick Astley has earned his place as a true champion of the people and will bring his extraordinary live show to Lingfield Park Resort in Autumn 2020.
