November Highlights at The Electric Arcade

Despite the Brighton Grin Comedy Award drawing to a close last week, the seafront venue still has plenty of comedy, theatre, and family events to offer in the run-up to Christmas.

The popular seaside spot has welcomed many top-class, touring comedians since its launch earlier this year, and continues its winning streak with Nathan Cassidy’s Bumblebee. After a total sell-out at Edinburgh Fringe, the multi-award-winning comedian brings his true-crime stand-up show to Brighton beach. After seeing a burglar fleeing from his house, Cassidy gives chase, setting up a bold narrative tale packed with twists, turns, and side-splitting dark humour. Bumblebee, which has received countless award nominations and positive reviews, lands at The Electric Arcade on Saturday November 13th. “Watch a very talented and funny man construct a jigsaw puzzle where all the pieces neatly slot into place at the end…funny, astute and surprisingly warm-hearted” (★★★★ – North West End).

Swapping LA beaches for Brighton Pier, Simon David dons on his swimsuit for another instalment of his kaleidoscopic cabaret, Gaywatch. After fast becoming a fan favourite at Brighton Fringe, our host has now found permanent residence at The Electric Arcade, due to popular demand. On Saturday 6th November, Simon hosts clown Luke Rollason and fruity comedian Laura Kojo.

Punters looking for a dark and glamorous new take on the variety format can turn to Laurie Black’s Bad Luck Cabaret on Sunday 28th November. As the black sheep of the cabaret family, Black offers forth a cauldron of gritty electronic music and alternative performers, providing a welcome change for the much-loved genre.

Thanks to a new partnership with talented taste-makers Iddy Biddy Promotions, who are “bringing some of the hottest lineups in Brighton and surrounding areas to your attention” (BN1 Magazine), The Electric Arcade is the latest Brighton venue to open its doors up for live music. After welcoming local legends caramel for the debut show, Iddy Biddy continues their run with London neo-soul artist Sergio Selva on Wednesday 10th November.

Mama G’s Story Time Party will give families a welcome chance to let their hair down. The Christmas-themed party on Sunday 28th November will kick off with a seasonal story reading, before dimming the lights for a festive family disco.

The venue also plays host to weekly comedy nights, including Laughable (8PM Mondays) whose recent line-ups have included local hero Jen Brister and 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown’s Joe Wilkinson. At weekend’s you can check out Electric Comedy (8.45 PM Fridays & Saturdays) and The Late Show (10.30 PM Fridays & Saturdays) which will both continue throughout the winter months. Recent lineups have included comic Maisie Adam and cult comedian Marcel Lucont.
