ORIENT STAR introduces new Mechanical Moon Phase watches to its Contemporary Collection
ORIENT STAR announces three new models of the Mechanical Moon Phase to its Contemporary Collection. Available in May 2020, the new watches remain true to the original design of 2017, when ORIENT STAR launched its first mechanical watch with a moon phase function in its classic collection, which quickly became the flagship of the brand. This new, meticulously crafted design conjures the image of the earth as seen from the moon and boasts the exquisite quality and meticulous craftsmanship synonymous with ORIENT STAR.
In an evolution of function and design, this is the first Mechanical Moon Phase in the ORIENT Contemporary range. With the in-house caliber F7M63 at its heart, it boasts ORIENT STAR’s characteristic semi-skeleton layout at 9 o’clock with power reserve indicator at 12 o’clock, and adds a superb moon phase display and date at 6 o’clock. Among other enhancements, this latest movement has an increased running time of more than 50 hours – a further evolution of that used in the Classic Collection.
The most striking feature of the new Mechanical Moon Phase is how it has changed the usual “Moon as seen from the Earth” image, to show the “Earth as seen from the Moon”. With the moon phase subdial at the 6 o’clock position, the semi skeleton aperture is placed at 9 o’clock, in such a way as to evoke the Earth rising over the Moon’s horizon. The oscillation of the balance wheel glimpsed through the window signifies the Earth’s vitality, while the ring around the semi skeleton aperture suggests the Earth’s curvature.
The three-dimensional dial, with a sunburst pattern suggesting the expansiveness of space, is available in black, white, and ivory. High legibility is achieved by the mirror and brushed finishes on the hour and minute hands, and bar indices. This model is characterised by many fine details; the gray plating on the parts of the movement visible through the window and done exclusively for this model help to keep the legibility. The silver moon matching the dial design, and the sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on both sides of the glass (SAR coating) add to the intricate design of this delicate timepiece.
The case and metal bracelet are made of high-quality stainless steel (SUS316L) which has excellent anti-corrosive properties. The modern case with its tasteful design details includes “Sallaz” polishing, creating a smooth mirrored surface which reflects without distortion. The result is a powerful edgy look with a contemporary feel, making this watch ideal for any occasion from business to casual. The black or navy blue ceramic touch on top of the crown accentuates the feeling of quality and attention to detail. These excellent models offer many distinctive and individual elements to delight enthusiasts across the world.
