“We are the official fundraising arm of the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital (the Alex) where we raise money for life-saving and cutting-edge medical equipment, while ensuring that children are treated in an environment better suited to their needs. We also support the Trevor Mann Baby Unit (TMBU) based at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton and its sister site, the Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) at the Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Heath.” – Statement from the Rocking Horse Charity.
Press Release
New to the area, Silhouette Events presents an exciting Masquerade Ball at the Latest Music Bar on Manchester St, Brighton. The event is being organized in conjunction with Brighton’s local children’s charity, Rocking horse. To raise money for this good cause, an auction will be held at the event with special items, including a signed shirt from Joe Marler, a member of the England Rugby Team. Other amazing items will be revealed between now and the event itself. The event will also have casino tables available for added fun; these include the much loved Blackjack and Roulette!
Georgie Trenchard, one of the event organizers says, “We really want people to grab their favourite dress or their best tie and head down for an evening full of fun and socializing whilst raising money for a great cause.”
The attire for the evening is smart-casual, but in the spirit of being a masquerade ball, the most extravagant and best looking mask will be awarded with a prize during the event. Rocking horse is a Brighton-based charity which has been supporting children for nearly 50 years. It was set up in 1967 by Dr Trevor Mann, who recognized there was a real need for additional resources to improve healthcare services for sick children and babies.
The event will take place on the 5th May, with welcome drinks being served at 7.30pm. Tickets are just £10, to book yours visit www.thelatest.com or call 01273 687171 for more information. Latest Music bar can be found just a 15-minute walk away from the train station, almost opposite Brighton Pier.
Interview with Georgie Trenchard, event organizer
Is this an annual event? Have you planned others like this?
“The event has been organized as part of our university course, so is just a one off charity event for us, however it would be amazing if we could have more in the future.”
Why did you choose to start organizing events for charity?
“We wanted to organise an event with a purpose and liked the idea of raising money for a good cause. We looked at various charities but decided that we wanted to support a local charity as they may not get as much exposure as nationally known ones. We also liked what Rocking Horse stood for and also the work that they had already achieved.”
Roughly how many people are you hoping for the outcome?
“We only have 100 tickets for sale, but we will just appreciate having people show their support for a local charity.”
How much money would you ideally be looking to raise?
“We have a raffle and auction which will bring in the majority of our donation, prizes so far include things such as a signed Joe Marler (England rugby player) shirt and Komedia tickets. Because it is dependent on what the guests spend we would have no way of guessing how much we will raise, Hopefully something in the three digit amount what be nice though!”
And lastly, what made you come up with a masquerade theme for the event?
“A Masquerade Ball offers a unique, glamorous, and fun experience; we decided this was going to be one of our main aims for our event. We also decided that a masquerade added an extra element of interactivity to the event, to immerse the guests in a light hearted atmosphere.”
I’ve always loved going out to big events, and I love to support charities, there is no better way to spend a evening than with your friends, at a nice event and raising money for those less fortunate! I hope to meet lots of ABSOLUTE readers there!
