Spring into an exciting new season of comedy, dance and music at Brighton Dome
Spectacular new shows, comedy legends and dance superstars all take the stage at Brighton Dome in a sizzling new season this spring, running from 21 January to 6 May 2022.
Brighton’s own dreamthinkspeak and learning-disabled theatre company Access All Areas offer an immersive virtual reality experience, unReal City, from 21 January. This unique work-in-progress performance combines Virtual Reality technology with live actors to explore what personal connection means in a world that is increasingly digital.
Laugh the winter blues away with a fantastic array of comedy talent, including the return of the city’s biggest stand-up night, Live at Brighton Dome on 26 March, hosted by award-winning comedian and broadcaster John Robins. He’ll be joined by Live at the Apollo and Mock The Week star Sindhu Vee, Funny Women award-winner Sophie Duker and Simon Amstell of Never Mind the Buzzcocks fame.
Former Brighton Festival Guest Director Kae Tempest returns on 28 April to celebrate the launch of their new album The Line is a Curve. With four studio albums, a novel, their first work of non-fiction, three plays and five collections of poetry to their name, Tempest is one of the most prolific, thought-provoking and critically acclaimed voices of their generation.
Comedy
A fabulous night out is guaranteed on 24 February as the unforgettable Jonathan van Ness, star of Netflix’s Queer Eye, tumbles into your heart with a night of gymnastics and hilarious tales of their life as an Imaginary Living Room Olympian.
Comedy legend and star of TV sitcoms Bad Move, Lead Balloon and Josh, Jack Dee is back with his latest stand-up tour on 4 March.
And don’t miss Emmy award-winning comedian Hannah Gadsby, bringing her new show, Body of Work, to the UK for the first time on 9 and 10 March.
Dance
Dance fans can relive the glamour of classic Hollywood as Strictly Come Dancing’s Anton du Beke lights up the dancefloor with partner Erin Boag in Showtime on 15 February. A glittering celebration of the greatest entertainment icons of all time, from Fred Astaire to Frank Sinatra, Showtime is the perfect outing for all the family.
The ever-dazzling International ‘Queen of Burlesque’, Dita Von Teese, returns in March with her lavishly daring all-new revue show, Dita Von Teese: Glamonatrix.
Music
Leading producer, songwriter, DJ, and multi-instrumentalist Nitin Sawhney brings his latest album, Immigrants, to Brighton, while favourites Soul II Soul, The Divine Comedy and Everything Everything will be back to rock the Dome this spring.
Classical music lovers can enjoy the latest in our season of Coffee Concerts, hosted at the Attenborough Centre for Culture and Creative Arts. Highlights include new Director of Brighton Philharmonic, Joanna McGregor, and the Mithras Trio.
Film
Embark on a thrilling night of adventure with a brand-new collection from the ever-popular Banff Mountain Film Festival on 29 March. The short film showcase features the world’s best adventure film-makers and explorers as they push themselves to the limits in the most remote and stunning corners of the globe.
Talks and debate
TV adventurer and host of Deadly 60, Steve Backshall brings the icons of the deep blue sea to life with Ocean on 26 April. Stunts, experiments and cutting-edge science combine in a love letter to our seas.
Spend an evening with Test Match Special and cricket legends Phil Tufnell and Jonathan Agnew, as they take you inside the famous TMS commentary box and share memories from their international playing careers on 19 April.
Don’t miss a fascinating historical talk on 25 March about the Three Kings of Bechuanaland (now Botswana), led by historians Suchi Chatterjee and Dr Bert Williams MBE from Brighton & Hove Black History. The Kings came to the UK in 1895 to urge the British Government to prevent the British South Africa Company from gaining ownership of their country – and succeeded.
Community events
Brighton Dome joins together with local community groups to celebrate International Women’s Day on Saturday 5 March, with full programme details to be announced in collaboration with Brighton Museum. And Access Open Day on Saturday 26 March offers a place for disabled visitors and organisations to come together to enjoy performances, talks, workshops and backstage tours.
Budding young comedians can join our weekend workshops with Comedy Club 4 Kids. Professionals teach young people how to write and perform comedy, finding the funny in their own experiences and turning it into stand-up and sketches to boost confidence and life-skills.
