Strictly champion Pasha Kovalev to choreograph Worthing couple’s new & original production

‘Barista The Musical.’

With script and score written by Worthing-based husband and wife team Nigel and Anna Newman, tickets are now on sale for the hotly anticipated new production ‘Barista The Musical,’ choreographed by Strictly Come Dancing champion pro Pasha Kovalev, and directed by celebrated West End star Sarah Redmond.

The musical will debut at Horsham’s historic Capitol Theatre from 12th to the 21st September 2024. Combining a dramatic and gripping story with an outstanding original score, Barista The Musical’ is packed with beautiful melodies, show-stopping numbers and incredible Latin and contemporary dance.

The production charts a young Colombian woman’s journey to follow her dreams whilst unlocking the nightmares of her past; an intoxicating blend of love, truth, passion and the darkest of secrets.

Having departed Strictly Come Dancing after 8 seasons, 3 finals and winning 1 glitter ball trophy, Pasha has concentrated on production and choreography projects. In 2021, Pasha returned to the West End as one of the lead performers in ‘Here Come The Boys’ and this year, Pasha has choreographed feature film ‘Paris Christmas Waltz’ and is currently touring the UK in ‘La Bamba: The Musical.’  Choreographing ‘Barista The Musical’ will provide the perfect platform for fusing Pasha’s love of musicals with fiery latin dance, all whilst supporting new musical theatre talent.

Nigel and Anna Newman, both born and bred in Sussex, are well known throughout the county for their musical and story-writing talents.  Barista was a project the co-creators began writing and workshopping over ten years ago.  Now having recruited their creative team, they are preparing for the forthcoming casting call and looking forward to the journey ahead, as they see their dream come to fruition.

“We’re thrilled and hugely excited! With all the love and hard work that has gone into the show, it’s absolutely wonderful to see it coming to life, and to know it will soon be on stage is more than a dream come true.” Nigel Newman – Co-Creator of ‘Barista The Musical’

“Both Nigel and I were born and have lived in Sussex all our lives and so it seemed like a natural step to stage Barista in a Sussex Theatre.   The show has a bit of a following locally too, which obviously makes it easier for those who have been supporting us until now to see the show (more than once hopefully!).  Also, Nigel is a well known Sussex based musician and Musical Director, so it all made sense.  The Capitol in Horsham is a fantastic venue, with very comfortable raked seating.  We felt it was just the right fit for us.” Anna Newman – Co-Creator of ‘Barista The Musical’

We are extremely lucky to have such a fantastic team of creatives working with us and also to have our great producers, EJP, who have been supporting us on this journey since 2018.”
