Brighton based theatre training school, The Brighton Academy, is delighted to formally announce that from September 2018 it will be offering two degree courses in association with Bath Spa University. The two courses; BA (Hons) Musical Theatre and BA (Hons) Performing Arts aim to provide students with the vital skills needed to succeed in the industry and most exciting of all, applications are now open!
Bath Spa University, which was founded in 1852, teaches and researches across art, sciences, education, social science, and business. The university employs outstanding creative professionals who support its aim to be a leading educational institution in creativity, culture and enterprise.
Kate Alexander, Principal of The Brighton Academy, said: “Needless to say, we are absolutely thrilled to be collaborating with Bath Spa University to offer degree level courses in the performing arts, which are designed to give students the industry knowledge and the professional outlook needed for a successful career.”
Both courses train students to be versatile, imaginative and employable performers, with dancing, singing, and acting skills being developed as individual performers and as part of an ensemble. Perhaps the biggest stand out point, is that the courses are open to those aged over 16 which gives performers a head start on their education.
Emma Green, Principal of The Brighton Academy, said: “As our degree courses are open to performers aged over 16, it gives young people a fantastic opportunity to get a head start on their education and their careers. We’re pleased we can offer this and make a difference for the stars of tomorrow!”
The degree level courses include the BA (Hons) in Musical Theatre, which aims to develop the students’ ability to work in a variety of genres across the highest levels of the musical theatre industry. Whilst the BA (Hons) in Performing Arts, prepares students to work in a variety of genres across the classical and contemporary repertoires. It also includes a professional practice year, where students can engage in projects with peers, industry professionals and professional venues.
The Brighton Academy’s alumni have gone on to perform in UK tours of Mamma Mia! and Shrek the Musical, the US stadium tour of Jesus Christ Superstar, Kiss Me Kate in the West End, at Disneyland Paris, on P&O Cruises, in the Disney feature film Mary Poppins Returns, in the TV series Horrible Histories and in a Barclaycard advert, to name just a few.
Stuart Dawes, founding Principal of The Brighton Academy, said: “We first opened our doors in 2011, with four successful West End performers at the head. Since then the academy has continued to grow over the years and continues to offer students the very best start towards a successful career. We now proudly boast a 100% graduate success rate with top West End agents, with students progressing to working in West End musicals, cruises, overseas, and in TV and film. We hope that with the new offering of degree level courses, our students can see even further success by training with The Brighton Academy.”
Tim Newman, Principal of The Brighton Academy, added: “We are thrilled to be working with Bath Spa, particularly as it was awarded Silver in the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) last year.
