After an incredibly successful two years in London, which have seen them open three popular locations in Boxpark Croydon, Boxpark Shoreditch and Camden, the UK’s first vegan doner kebab restaurant What The Pitta are thrilled to be opening in Brighton. The launch of their fourth brand on Brighton’s bustling East Street in late 2018 is another huge step forward for the kebab success story.
What the Pitta have an already established fan base amongst hungry Londoners – both vegan and meat-eaters. They are famed for their unique kebabs and their popularity is only growing. The kebabs include non-GMO soya pieces marinated in a blend of their secret spices, and provide the perfect healthy, guilt-free meal. The bread is handmade on site in front of customers, and filled with homemade hummus, tzatziki, fresh salads and chilli sauce. With prices for the Vegan Doner Kebab starting from £7.95, the menu also includes a variety of purse-friendly meal deals and plant-based options such as Turkish pizza (Lamacun), Doner Chop Box, a couscous salad box and baklava. A recent addition to the Camden branch also includes their Vegan Doner Pitta which is already proving to be a huge hit!
What The Pitta was the brainchild of British-Turkish friends Cem Yildiz and Rojdan Gul. Cem had recently become vegan and was passionate about the health and environmental benefits of going meat-free, but was missing the grilled flavours of his favourite Turkish foods. As it happened, Roj’s uncle had been perfecting his own cult vegan kebabs in Germany for years, so after an educational trip to learn the secret recipe, What The Pitta was born and their first pop up opened in August 2016 at The Pump, Shoreditch. Their Croydon branch soon followed, with the opening of Shoreditch in Summer 2017, and Camden in Spring 2018.
Co-Founder Cem Yildiz comments:
‘It’s incredible that in just two years we have grown so quickly. With the support of our loyal customers, a truly unrivalled tasty product and some sheer hard-work, we are now onto our fourth opening! What started as a little wooden stall in Shoreditch is now a well-known name amongst the vegan and food community, especially in London. We can’t wait to take our kebabs further afield with our Brighton opening later this year. We hope to continue encouraging people across the South-East to be meat free more often by providing delicious and satisfying alternatives, with added health and environmental benefits. We look forward to welcoming you to our new Brighton location very soon.’
What The Pitta opens their new branch at 14 East Street, Brighton, BN1 1HP in late 2018.
