Tickets for The Tempest at Arundel Castle are being swept away
Tickets are selling quickly for two performances of Shakespeare’s The Tempestat Arundel Castle on Friday 16 and Saturday 17 August.
Kicking off the Arundel Festival, the performances by award-winning theatre group Illyria will take place al-fresco in the stunning Collector Earl’s Garden against the stunning backdrop of the beautifully lit Arundel Cathedral.
Castle Manager Stephen Manion said: “We can’t wait to welcome theatre lovers back to Arundel Castle next month. Our annual Shakespeare performances are always a real treat and have become one of the most popular events of our summer calendar. Be warned though, tickets are being snapped up quickly and won’t be available much longer.”
Illyria, one of the UK’s oldest outdoor touring theatre groups, will return to the Castle after their sold-out performances of The Merchant of Venice last year.
Illyria’s Artistic Director, Oliver Gray spoke of his enthusiasm for returning to Arundel, commenting: “Last year’s performances at the Castle were one of the highlights of our summer. The gardens are extremely beautiful, I don’t think there’s a better place to spend a quintessential English summer evening.
Gray also revealed that there will be a few surprises in store for audiences: “We haven’t performed The Tempestin 15 years, so I’ve had a lot of exciting new ideas for this production. We’re sure that even audiences who have seen The Tempest performed before will be in for a surprise!”
The Tempest begins on a ship alone at sea. After a violent storm, the ship’s crew and passengers are shipwrecked on a remote island, home to the sorcerer Prospero. Audiences will be taken on a thrilling ride as Illyria delve through one of Shakespeare’s most mysterious plays.
Tickets are priced from £15 for children and £20 for adults and can be purchased online here
